SM-1

WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I SHOT THE TARGET PLATE WHILE IT'S ON ITS WAY UP?
It will most likely break the motor axle or the gears inside the motor and will require replacement. Strikemark is not responsible for damage as a result of shooting the target before it has completely reset itself...trust us, we can tell. DO NOT SHOOT THE TARGET UNTIL IT HAS COMPLETELY RESET ITSELF. Thankfully, this only takes about a second and a half...so you can wait.

CAN I LEAVE THE SM-1 OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT?
Not recommended. While the SM-1 is weather resistant, accumulated moisture or dew that can occur overnight is not good for the SM-1, especially for extended periods of time. The SM-1 is weather resistant but not weatherproof.

WHAT DO I DO IF THE TARGET GETS WET…REALLY WET?
Turn the target in the OFF position as soon as you possibly can. Remove the lid and towel off all visible moisture. Allow the target to air dry for an extended period of time. Once dry, secure the lid and continue normal operation.

CAN I SHOOT THE TARGET IN THE RAIN?
Drizzling, yes, no problem. Pouring cats and dogs, it would be best to cover the target or bring it indoors.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO CHARGE THE SM-1’S BATTERY FOR?
8 hours for a full charge. We recommend charging the unit before each major session. If you purchased your battery charger from us, the charger will notify you when the battery is charged or needs charged.

HOW MANY SHOTS CAN A TARGET PLATE WITHSTAND BEFORE I HAVE TO REPLACE IT?
The target plates are actually reversible, which means that when one side of the plate is just too hideous to look at, you can simply use the other side of the same plate. As far as the useful life of the plate, it really all depends on what distance and caliber you are shooting at. A typical .308 round at 100 yards for example is going to yield you several thousand rounds on each side of the plate.

HOW LONG DOES THE BATTERY LAST?
Our current marketing materials say 1,500+ resets, but in all actuality we've got units that haven't been charged in two months and have over 3,000 resets on them and are still going strong. If your target has been sitting for an extended period of time (2 weeks +), charge it overnight prior to your session just to be on the safe side. But on the record, we have never once had a target die on us downrange.

WHEN DO I HAVE TO BUY A NEW BATTERY?
On average the battery in the SM-1 can last anywhere from 2-3 years. It depends on how much utilization your SM-1 receives and the conditions (temperature mainly) in which you store and shoot your SM-1 in.

DOES THE SM-1 NEED ANY MAINTENANCE?
Not really. Depending on how much you shoot and the conditions you shoot in you may want to access the unit to clean the inside, although even significant amounts of dirt and shrapnel will not interfere with normal operation. Ranges are dirty places and bullets can kick up a lot of dirt and rocks. The SM-1 was designed in and for these real-world conditions...not a lab.

ARE THE TARGET PLATES REPLACEABLE?
Yes. When you need to replace your plate, you'll know it. You can order replacements directly from STRIKEMARK. We offer a wide variety of shapes and sizes to suit your needs.

WHAT CALIBERS AND DISTANCES CAN I SHOOT THE SM-1 WITH?
Like everything mechanical, the harder you are on it the greater your chances are of reducing its useful life. You will receive the best life from your SM-1 and the target plate at a minimum distance of 100 yards with .308 (7.62), .223 (5.56), and similar ammunition. We have tested the SM-1 at extremely close distances with some very punishing ammunition. The SM-1 can take it, but don't come complaining to us if you're cratering your front-armor-plate or target shapes because you're shooting green tips at 20 yards. Do not shoot your target with a .50 cal.
